Frequently Asked Questions

General

We are a premier and affordable tutoring service for the Worcester County area.

State Tutor was founded in December of 2007 by Shengzhi Li and Lingke Wang.

State Tutor hires qualified high school seniors and college students from around the area.

For SAT and PSAT tutoring, all tutors must have a 97% percentile or greater in all sections of the SAT I or PSAT, and a 720 or more in the SAT II that they teach. For academic tutoring, the tutor must have completed the class with an A average at Honors level or higher. All AP tutors must have received a 5 on the exam.

Academic tutoring focuses on helping your student do better in a class. For example, a tutoring session may focus on homework help, study strategies, or reviewing for tests. Academic tutoring sessions gear around the class by providing further explanations and extra help for the student.

Standardized Test tutoring focuses on helping your student achieve higher scores on a standardized test. In standardized test tutoring, tutors will teach to the specific test. They will break down all the strategies for the test, all types of questions, and explicit subject and content areas for the student in detail. Then the focus will be shifted to practice and drills to hone and sharpen skills.

State Tutor is dedicated to offering premiere and affordable service. If you find any other company that serves your area at a lower price than State Tutor, send us an email with the company's website and we will offer you service at a price that is 10% lower than theirs. Individual tutors, however, do not apply for this offer since we can neither ascertain their service quality nor their price.

We offer two types of positions: Advertising Agent and Peer Tutor. Please visit our careers web page for more information.

Semi-private Tutoring

Group tutoring is where 2-4 students form a miniclass that the tutor can teach.

Group tutoring prices are cheaper per person. Furthermore, often times students are more comfortable learning in a group rather than in one-on-one sessions because it takes off some of the pressure.

Currently, group tutoring packages may be only paid by one person.

We offer a free trial to begin with so you may get to know your tutor and avoid having to switch in the middle of a package. However, if for any reason you are unsatisfied, you can contact us for a change.

The group needs to work it out amongst themselves and the tutor when the best meeting day is for everyone. Unfortunately, we can’t offer a “make up” day for only part of the group. If a member is okay with losing a lesson, the rest of the group is free to meet.

If a group member decides to drop out, he/she is free to do so but we cannot offer a refund to him/her; the rest of the group can continue as planned.

Private Tutoring

You get to determine that with the tutor yourself. All tutors have transportation so they can go wherever you are most comfortable – your home, a library, Starbucks, etc. Their times are also very flexible so they can work around to meet your needs.
